Shared from Hamilton Police Department:
🚌 Stop for the bus so you’re not stopped by us! 🚔🛑
Please stop for school buses when they are picking up or dropping off students.
In Alabama, the law requires you to stop when the bus’ red lights and stop sign are activated:
- On a two-lane road: Traffic in both directions must stop.
- On a four-lane road without a median: All lanes of traffic must stop.
- On a divided highway with a median: Only traffic following the bus must stop.

A big thank you to Hamilton Police Officer Heath Jackson for standing in until our new SRO begins his duties next week. We appreciate your service to our students, parents, and faculty this week!#HMSStrong 🐾❤️

The Marion County Board of Education signed the Memorandum of Understanding today with the City of Hamilton and the Hamilton Police Department for 2 SROs to serve the 1,600 students in Hamilton. Shown are Hamilton Mayor Bob Page, Hamilton Police Chief Jordan Carter, Superintendent Ann West, and District Safety Supervisor Patrick Sutton.
“We are honored to provide dedicated protection to the students, faculty and authorized visitors at the Marion County Schools in Hamilton. It is important to clarify that we are required to hire an individual certified by the Alabama Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission, who is a certified law enforcement officer with the power of arrest. Background checks, psychological evaluations, experience and specialized training was factored during the consideration of Hamilton’s SRO/SPO. There was some confusion during the initial hiring announcement, suggesting that the officer would be unarmed. This is not true. Our School Resource Officers/School Protection Officers will be armed with department-issued firearms and non-lethal weapons, as required by state law.” -Chief Carter

The Marion County Board of Education is now accepting applications from qualified individuals for the School Counselor position at Hamilton Middle School. This is a 187 day (9 month) position and includes all applicable State benefits including retirement and insurance.
