For the 2026-2027 school year, basic school supplies will be provided to PHS students. This will include supplies like wooden pencils, colored pencils, notebooks, and clear backpacks. ‼️Please note that ONLY clear backpacks will be allowed in the high school. We have plenty available for students who would like one.‼️ Students taking dual enrollment or Access classes will need to purchase their own flash drive. If your student wants specific supplies (cute binders, pens, etc.), please take advantage of the Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday this weekend. Supplies will be available to students when we hold registration in August. Registration details will be coming soon! Enjoy the rest of your summer break! ☀️

Marion County Schools today announced its policy for free and reduced-price meals for children served in schools under the National School Lunch Program and/or School Breakfast Program. For School Year 2026-2027, Marion County Schools will continue participation in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP). No further action is required of you. This USDA provision allows your child(ren) to participate in the school meal programs without having to pay a fee or submit a meal application.

CEP is a key provision of the Healthy, Hunger Free Kids Act of 2010, which allows schools and school districts in low-income areas to eliminate school meal applications and serve breakfast and lunch at no charge to all enrolled students. CEP gives food service professionals more time to focus on preparing nutritious meals that their students will enjoy and gives students more time to eat those meals by cutting down on time spent in the lunch line. More importantly, by offering all students a nutritious breakfast and lunch at no cost, CEP helps ensure more students come to class well-nourished and ready to learn.

Children need healthy meals to learn. Marion County Schools offers healthy meals every school day. Breakfast and lunch meals will follow the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) guidelines for healthy school meals, so please encourage students to participate. “In the operation of child feeding programs, no child will be discriminated against because of race, sex, color, national origin, age or disability.”

With an incredible 37 years of experience in special education, Mr. Rowan brings extensive experience, compassion, and knowledge to the classroom. His many years of serving students with diverse learning needs have equipped him with the skills and understanding to make a meaningful impact on every student. We are excited to have him join our Phillips High family and look forward to the positive difference he will make!

We’re excited to welcome Ms. Amy Cartmell back to our Bear family! Ms. Cartmell was with PHS as a Special Education Teacher for the 2021-2022 school year, and we couldn’t be happier to have her back. With 21 years of experience in education, she brings a wealth of knowledge, unwavering dedication, and a deep commitment to helping every student reach their full potential. Please join us in giving Ms. Cartmell a warm welcome back as she begins this new school year with us. As we often say, “Once a Bear, always a Bear!”

Many of our students and staff already know Mrs. Wilson from last school year when she stepped in to fill a leave position. During that time, she quickly became a valued member of our school community, fostering student success and making a positive impact every day. We are thrilled that she will be continuing her journey with us in this new role and look forward to all the great things ahead!

Sign up for summer school today at the PHS office! All classes will be virtual and will begin tomorrow, June 2. The cost is $200 per class. Additional information is available when you sign up.

Football Meeting: Friday, June 5th at 6 pm in the gym. Anyone interested in playing football should attend with a parent or guardian.

This week, students from our senior class traveled to Washington DC and New York City via Amtrak train. In Washington DC, they visited Arlington National Cemetery, visited the US Capitol building, and saw the monuments. In NYC, they visited the American Museum of Natural History, One World Observatory, 9/11 Memorial & Museum, and the Statue of Liberty. They also walked across the Brooklyn Bridge and attended Stranger Things on Broadway. The Senior Trip is an excellent opportunity to teach our small town students about history and civic awareness but also adaptability and big possibilities!

🐻 🚛✨ Hands-On Career Exploration at Phillips High School! ✨🚛 🐻 Friday, Phillips High School students in grades 7th–9th had an exciting opportunity to step inside the future of workforce training with the ACCS Simulator Truck! Students explored interactive simulators from the Alabama Community College System Innovation Center, experiencing real-world scenarios in careers like construction, transportation, agriculture, and emergency services. From operating equipment to making quick decisions in realistic environments, these simulations brought career pathways to life in a fun and engaging way. 🏃‍♂️ Sports Physicals Reminder 🏃‍♀️ Sports physicals will be held Wednesday, May 6th at 8:00 AM in the Phillips High School Gym for students in grades 6-11. ✅ Important: Make sure to turn in your completed physical form to Coach Gillum by May 5th. Don’t wait until the last minute—get your forms in and be ready for the upcoming sports season!
