The Marion County Extension Office partnered with the Northwest R, C, & D to host a Marion County resource meeting today. This outreach meeting was also sponsored by USDA & NRCS. Marion County Schools was represented along with folks from all across our county….a great meeting!

Bevill State Community College Division of Workforce Solutions, Hamilton Area Chamber of Commerce, & the Hamilton Career Center have partnered to host a Career Fair on Tuesday, September 13, 2022, on the Bevill State Community College Hamilton Campus from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

VISION DAY at the University of Alabama: Brilliant High School 9th graders were bragged on for being Awesome while on the campus of UA. The students had the opportunity to tour the campus, experience dining on campus, and received lots of college and career information. Thanks to UA for hosting the 9th graders!!!




The Phillips High School Theatre Group was awarded 33 tickets from the American Theatre Guild to watch Stomp as part of the Broadway in Birmingham Series. PHS Theatre Teacher, Chris Farris, applied for the Staging the Future Grant and was awarded the tickets. Mr. Farris, along with Kaylen Peppers, an English teacher, have developed the theatre program at PHS for the past three years. They have a weekly newscast and are planning a Christmas play as well as a spring play.

REMINDER: Monday, September 12th, is a Teacher Workday. There is no school for students on that day. Have a wonderful and safe long weekend!

Mrs. Ballard’s 7th grade science students at Hamilton Middle School are observing microscopic wasps as part of their unit on biodiversity and interdependence. While wasps are often seen as the bad guy, this parasitic wasp actually kills a large number of flies each year.

Marion County Schools are proud of our very own Ann West for being named District 7 Superintendent of the Year, and she is a finalist for Alabama Superintendent of the Year. We appreciate the leadership of Mrs. West and how she represents Marion County on the district and state level.

This group of Phillips Elementary students enjoyed the beautiful weather and visit from the fire department.

While learning about the historical Progressive Era, the students in Mrs. Lee’s social studies classroom at MCHS did a “speed dating” activity where they met and talked as different people from the time period. To prepare for the activity, the students had to create a resume’ and then talk to each other as if they were the person they had researched. Afterwards, they had to see which other progressive their person would match with the best professionally.
