Marion County Schools today announced its policy for free and reduced-price meals for children served in schools under the National School Lunch Program and/or School Breakfast Program. For School Year 2026-2027, Marion County Schools will continue participation in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP). No further action is required of you. This USDA provision allows your child(ren) to participate in the school meal programs without having to pay a fee or submit a meal application.

CEP is a key provision of the Healthy, Hunger Free Kids Act of 2010, which allows schools and school districts in low-income areas to eliminate school meal applications and serve breakfast and lunch at no charge to all enrolled students. CEP gives food service professionals more time to focus on preparing nutritious meals that their students will enjoy and gives students more time to eat those meals by cutting down on time spent in the lunch line. More importantly, by offering all students a nutritious breakfast and lunch at no cost, CEP helps ensure more students come to class well-nourished and ready to learn.

Children need healthy meals to learn. Marion County Schools offers healthy meals every school day. Breakfast and lunch meals will follow the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) guidelines for healthy school meals, so please encourage students to participate. “In the operation of child feeding programs, no child will be discriminated against because of race, sex, color, national origin, age or disability.”

Parents or guardians who need further information may contact Jennifer Roberts, Child Nutrition Program Director, at 205-921-1903 or toll-free at 1-888-448-5074.

Alabama FFA United at the 98th Annual Alabama State FFA Convention!

Members of the Guin FFA Chapter were honored to attend the 98th Annual Alabama State FFA Convention in Montgomery, where this year's theme, "Alabama FFA United," brought together thousands of members from across the state to celebrate leadership, service, agriculture, and personal growth.

Representing Marion County High School were freshmen Kamahri Taylor and Roony Vasquez, along with seventh grader Chloe Beth Otts. Chloe Beth proudly performed two twirl routines during the Talent Showcase, while Roony represented Guin FFA by competing in the Spanish Creed Speaking Leadership Development Event (LDE).

Throughout the convention, students explored career opportunities in agriculture, skilled trades, and higher education while visiting with universities, industry leaders, and agricultural organizations. They also enjoyed learning about Alabama's rich history with visits to the Alabama Cattlemen's Association MOOseum and the Alabama State Capitol.

The experience perfectly reflected the FFA Motto: Learning to Do, Doing to Learn, Earning to Live, Living to Serve. These students embraced every opportunity to learn, grow, and serve while representing Marion County High School and the Guin community with excellence.

At Guin FFA, we are committed to "Growing Today's Leaders from the Ground Up," and this convention provided another opportunity for our members to develop the leadership, communication, and career skills that will help them succeed in agriculture and beyond.

Thank you to everyone who sent notes of encouragement, prayers, snacks, and treats for the journey. Your support helped make this trip memorable for our students. A very special thank you to Shannon and Tracey Webb, Chloe Beth's grandparents, for traveling with us and serving as chaperones during the trip. We are incredibly grateful for their time, support, and willingness to invest in the lives of our students. Their encouragement and assistance helped make this experience safe, enjoyable, and successful for everyone involved.

We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to Marion County Soil and Water Conservation District and Northwest Alabama RC&D Council for their generous sponsorship. Your commitment to supporting agricultural education and youth leadership opportunities helped make this unforgettable experience possible.

Together, we are proving that when we are Alabama FFA United, there is no limit to what our members can achieve!

GUIN FFA SUMMER HAPPENINGS

Summer may be in full swing, but the Guin FFA Chapter is still growing, serving, and making a difference! We are incredibly thankful for God's goodness as we continue to see our school gardens produce fresh vegetables and learning opportunities for our students and community. From planting seeds to harvesting blessings, our members are discovering that agriculture is about much more than growing crops, it's about growing leaders.

This summer, Guin FFA members have been busy harvesting and caring for our school gardens, assisting with the Feed My Sheep Food Distribution, working alongside our Advisory Board members to strengthen our program, and helping renovate and improve our agriculture shop for future hands-on learning experiences.

The work doesn't stop there!
