The Marion County Board of Education signed the Memorandum of Understanding today with the City of Hamilton and the Hamilton Police Department for 2 SROs to serve the 1,600 students in Hamilton. Shown are Hamilton Mayor Bob Page, Hamilton Police Chief Jordan Carter, Superintendent Ann West, and District Safety Supervisor Patrick Sutton. “We are honored to provide dedicated protection to the students, faculty and authorized visitors at the Marion County Schools in Hamilton. It is important to clarify that we are required to hire an individual certified by the Alabama Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission, who is a certified law enforcement officer with the power of arrest. Background checks, psychological evaluations, experience and specialized training was factored during the consideration of Hamilton’s SRO/SPO. There was some confusion during the initial hiring announcement, suggesting that the officer would be unarmed. This is not true. Our School Resource Officers/School Protection Officers will be armed with department-issued firearms and non-lethal weapons, as required by state law.” -Chief Carter

Marion County Principals, Assistant Principals, and Central Office Administrators strive to be lifelong learners. We have participated in two years of administrative leadership training that involved both individual coaching at the school level and system whole group training. Kacy Pierce, Denise Woods, and Cheryl Capps were our trainers and mentors. During the process they have become partners and friends of Marion County Schools.
