The Marion County Board of Education signed the Memorandum of Understanding today with the City of Hamilton and the Hamilton Police Department for 2 SROs to serve the 1,600 students in Hamilton. “We are honored to provide dedicated protection to the students, faculty and authorized visitors at the Marion County Schools in Hamilton. It is important to clarify that we are required to hire an individual certified by the Alabama Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission, who is a certified law enforcement officer with the power of arrest. Background checks, psychological evaluations, experience and specialized training was factored during the consideration of Hamilton’s SRO/SPO. There was some confusion during the initial hiring announcement, suggesting that the officer would be unarmed. This is not true. Our School Resource Officers/School Protection Officers will be armed with department-issued firearms and non-lethal weapons, as required by state law.” -Chief Carter

Marion County Principals, Assistant Principals, and Central Office Administrators strive to be lifelong learners. We have participated in two years of administrative leadership training that involved both individual coaching at the school level and system whole group training. Kacy Pierce, Denise Woods, and Cheryl Capps were our trainers and mentors. During the process they have become partners and friends of Marion County Schools.
The National Weather Service has put us under a level 3 threat of severe weather this afternoon. Therefore, all Marion County Schools will dismiss at 1:00 p.m. this afternoon in order to give our buses time to get all of our students home safely. Be weather aware, and stay safe!
All Marion County Schools will be closed for Spring Break March 25-29, 2024. School will resume on Monday, April 1st. Have fun and stay safe!
The Hamilton High School HOSA Prom Promise Mock Wreck will be tomorrow, Wednesday, March 20 at 10:00 am. The "wreck" will be at the intersection by the Hamilton Fire Department. Please do not be alarmed if you see emergency personnel or AirEvac in that area around that time.

Hamilton Police Officers had a successful week during “Operation Stop or Be Stopped.” At least one citation was issued each day, and on some days, MULTIPLE citations. Officers will continue to issue citations and monitor the bus routes where they receive multiple complaints.
