The Marion County Board of Education recently participated in an EPA sponsored program where 1997 model year school buses were taken off the road and their engines made permanently inoperable. The Marion County Board of Education qualified to have five buses rendered inoperable in return for heavy manufacturer discounts on brand new 2019 buses. In accordance with the EPA rules for the program, a heat sensitive substance was placed in the crankcase of the 1997 buses and they were run until the substance solidified and ruined the engines. What was left were five 1997 buses that had been used the previous school year with inoperable engines just waiting on you to turn them into storage sheds, chicken houses, modern art, scrap metal, or zombie apocalypse bunkers.
