My Homepage

Hello everyone! My name is Tracie Franklin Skinner, and I am a 3rd grade teacher at the best school in our little corner of the world!  Hackleburg School has been my home for most of my life as I enrolled here in 8th grade as a student, graduated from our school, and I have now been teaching here for 14 years.  I am very proud to share this community with you as my home.

My husband, Lance, and I have been blessed with three beautiful children.  Kylee Grace, Brantley, and Bristol.  We live in Hodges, AL where we enjoy living on our farm.  As many of the folks in our area, we own six poultry houses and cattle.  In our free time, we enjoy playing outdoors, traveling, and spending time with extended family.  We have found a home at New Mt. Carmel Church in Hodges, and consider them family as well.

My professional career started with two years of undergraduate work at Northwest Shoals Community College.  From there, I transferred to the University of North Alabama where I received a Bachelor Degree in Elementary Education K-6.  Following my graduation I went back to school at UNA to earn a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education.  I worked briefly at Belgreen and Vina schools before becoming a 6th grade teacher at Hackleburg.  I have taught several grade levels at Hackleburg before landing in 3rd grade including: kindergarten, 1st, 4-6th reading, 7-8th reading, and reading coach.

Philosophy-

I believe that reading and writing are the cornerstones of a child’s education.  Those skills begin developing before a child even enters school.  As a teaching professional, reading is my passion as that is the subject that I teach.  I also believe that you cannot teach a child’s mind without considering their hearts.  It is my job to help each child grow to meet his or her full potential. Teaching is not only about learning content, but also about providing children with compassion, love, and support.  None of these goals can be accomplished without a partnership with students’ parents.  Parents are their child’s first teacher, and it takes all of us to help a child succeed!
